The language of design and placemaking can be jargon-heavy, hard to define and mean different things to different people.

At Beyond Buzzwords: the language of collaborative design, on 17 October 2018, we bought together a room of community activists, professionals, academics, students and interested individuals, who worked together to unpack terms like community-led design, co-design and co-production. Exploring inspiring and inclusive design approaches, we went on map our conversation, considering the types of skills and civic awareness these processes can unearth and unlock in people, places and communities.
Beyond Buzzwords was developed and delivered in partnership with our strategic partners, The Design Group at Open University. With thanks to film maker Emma Crouch of i say RAAR, who captured the event for us.

Beyond Buzzwords was the first event in The Glass-House 2018/19 event series, We design. We designevents are active spaces, in which participants work together to develop ideas, proposals and prototypes which challenge their own and other people’s perceptions of design and placemaking. The series continues in Sheffield in November 2018 and Edinburgh in January 2019 before returning back to London with our round-up event in March 2019.
