We believe that it is crucial to create safe spaces for people who do not ordinarily meet to come together to explore complex issues and creatively shape ideas. Our varied programmes of free events bring people together across sectors, disciplines and communities as equals to do this.

We’re busy planning a full programme of events that will kick off in September. Here is what you can look forward to:

Glass-House Chats

Glass-House Chats are monthly hour-long online spaces for conversation and connection. These free online events are kept intentionally small so that everyone taking part can jump in and join the conversation. Where possible, we encourage participants to keep their cameras and microphones on, to pose questions and ideas, and to share stories and links.

Once again, Series 7 will see us collaborating with a range of inspiring people and organisations who will co-host sessions with us. Each guest co-host will help us bring focus, expertise and experience to conversations about different aspects of the design of places. This year we’ll be looking at design in a range of contexts, including urban rooms, place-based networks, higher education, enabling, engagement, third spaces, making, policy and community power.

Research Rooms

The Research Rooms series is a collaboration between The Glass-House and The Open University’s Design Group. These events share learning, resources and anecdotes from the many research projects we have done together. In some sessions, we also invite others to co-host and share findings from their own projects, creating space for them to reach new audiences.

Research Rooms are informal online spaces for discussion with members of the research team from academia, practice and communities. Those attending can learn about the projects, their outputs and outcomes and the influence they have had on those involved. There will also be space to share your own experience and explorations of the project themes.

WEdesign

WEdesign is The Glass-House’s annual series of free interactive public events, held online and in-person in cities across the UK, where we explore collaborative design in placemaking through discussion, debate and playful co-design activities.

We’re currently working with our higher education partners, Glasgow School of Art & Missing in Architecture (Glasgow); University of Sheffield, Live Works (Sheffield); UCL Bartlett (London), and Newcastle University (Newcastle), to shape something a little different for this year. Watch this space for more information.
