Join us for the launch of Co-INSPIRE, a new Centre at the Open University focused on co-creation, co-production, co-design and participation
There’s real energy building around ‘Co’ right now. People, inside universities and beyond, are interested in what becomes possible when research and teaching are done with people rather than to them or for them. It’s a way of working that’s collaborative, exciting and often surprising, and this launch is our chance to bring that excitement together in one room (even if it’s a virtual one).
Co-INSPIRE aims to transform the university itself. We’re engaging critically with the processes, cultures and commitments around ‘co’ and finding ways of integrating them into the university’s ways of working – The idea is simple, by doing ‘co’ in a critical and reflexive way, we bring about the change we want to see.
And that’s where our launch theme comes in.
The future university should be open, democratic and genuinely connected to the world around it. But this isn’t something a university can do on its own. One of the biggest challenges is finding ways of working in genuine partnership with communities, organisations, enterprises and governments.
No one understands this better than the communities and organisations who partner with universities. For some, that’s meant rewarding work built on genuine equality, while for others, the experience hasn’t lived up to this ideal. Dialogues are about the continued conversation that’s necessary to make ‘Co’ work. The launch day will hold space for everybody to take part in this dialogue.
Dialogue should also shape how the university works and lead to something lasting. This is where methods and movements come in. The methods are the practical ‘co’ approaches and tools we explore together, across the university and beyond. The movements are the bigger shifts those methods add up to – fundamental change in how the university works, and who it works with.
Join us for a day of online panels and workshops where you can discover key ‘co’ approaches and methods and reflect together on how best to support and promote ‘Co’ in practice. You are welcome to join for the full day or dip into the parts that interest you most.
WHAT THE GLASS-HOUSE WILL BE DOING
From 3:40 to 4:40pm, we’ll be hosting workshop called WEdesign: What’s Vital Now? This will take our WEdesign approach to co-designing ideas into this event, creating a space for participants to do some blue sky thinking to generate ideas about things we can do to respond to today’s social and environmental challenges. We’ll be co-hosting this workshop with our strategic partners, The Open University’s Design Group.
Our partnership is actively involved in shaping the direction of this research centre, and we encourage people for outside the Open University to come and join the conversation.
