This week, Maja and I worked with Bacton Low Rise Tenants and Residents’ Association whose homes are facing demolition in Camden, London. We have been supporting them in developing a design brief for their new homes and plans for the next stage of the process. Over two days, together with our independent Enabler, John Burrell, we explained design briefs and the design team selection process, giving the group the chance to discuss and unpick these processes. The group also created mood boards to build up a picture of their ideal homes and brainstormed questions to help them select their future design team.

Renegade Pictures are filming a Channel 4 series called ‘The Secrets of Buildings’ presented by architecture critic Tom Dyckhoff. This series will have three parts based on Work, Home and Play and will focus on how buildings affect the way we feel. Maja was filmed with the group during some of the workshops to explore possible layouts for their new homes. Tom also spent some time asking Bacton Low Rise TRA about their experiences and why they wanted to be involved in the design of their new homes – we felt their replies confirmed all our convictions that residents have an important role to play in the design process of a regeneration project.

At The Glass-House we believe our built environment has a huge impact on our quality of life and we are pleased to find out that what we have been championing is being explored and made available to a wider audience. We are really excited to be involved in the documentary and it’s a great opportunity for the Tenants and Residents’ Association to showcase the hard work they’ve been doing. The series should be aired in October this year, but we’ll be sure to post an update nearer the time.
