This publication draws together a series of blogs we wrote following a visit to Minamisanriku, Japan, in the aftermath of the 2011 tsunami and earthquake. The visit formed part of the Bridging the Gap research project and brought us into contact with communities affected by the natural disaster, who very generously shared their stories with us so that others may learn from them. While they are stories rooted in the experience of a particular place and set of circumstances, they highlight issues and opportunities that are relevant to any community facing challenges of disruption, displacement and rebuilding.
