This publication brings together a collection of Think Pieces from the 2025/26 WEdesign series, Multigenerational Places, which appeared on The Glass-House blog from October 2025 through March 2026. It is a collaboration between The Glass- House Community Led Design and the Intergenerational National Network (INN). With an eclectic group of contributors representing voices that cross sectors, disciplines and geographical borders, we explore both how to cater for people of all ages in our built environment, and how our places might help people of different ages and generations connect with each other.
We could not have imagined the many facets of our built environment and our lives that the Think Pieces would explore. Our diverse contributors consider the arts and education, heritage, homes and co-housing, play, green spaces, growing and food production, intergenerational research and practice, LGBTQ rights, place equity and accessibility, just to name a few.
We are grateful to INN Coordinator Pat Scrutton for helping us to gather such an interesting and inspiring range of voices, experiences and propositions. We are also extremely grateful to all our contributors to Multigenerational Places: Think Pieces and feel sure that you will be inspired, as we were, by their words.
About Multigenerational Places
WEdesign 2025/26 was collaboration between The Glass-House and a range of partners across sectors and communities. Together, we convened a national conversation exploring the theme of Multigenerational Places. Our 2025/26 WEdesign series asked how we can create places that better meet the needs of our different generations and at the same time, help us better connect with each other across age groups. Multigenerational Places brought people together through in-person and online co-design events, a student programme and design competition, and a series of think pieces.
