Preparing to Work with Architects: a Beginner’s Guide for Community Clients is an
Empowering Design Practices (EDP) resource developed by The Glass-House on behalf of the EDP research team.

This booklet is for community groups seeking to appoint an architect and to understand the various ways this can be done. It will provide some basic information on what to look for in the person and practice you commission, as well as what you can do to prepare as a community-based commissioning client. Using a real-life example and some imagined scenarios, we will illustrate how an architect can bring different kinds of support and direction at different stages within a project.
